Consumers are told that LED Lights save
an incredible amount of energy in a number of different ways. But of course
they will still question, How do LED lights save energy? when shopping for
the right bulbs. When people are considering lighting sources and the
energy they consume, they normally only think about this in terms of the
amount of savings they can incur on their monthly cost of electricity.
However, there are a number of other ways that the use of LED lights can
save energy. Following are just a few different ways in which LED lighting
can save energy and contribute to the overall well being of the planets environment.
LED Lights in Traffic Lights
According to several online sources, there are roughly 50,000,000 traffic
lights in the continental United States, and that is an extremely
conservative figure. If current lighting systems cost taxpayers $100 per
year to power each of those lights, that would add up to over five billion
dollars per year just to operate traffic control lights. Unfortunately,
those figures are most likely twice as high, which means that an energy
efficient source of light, such as LED technology, could save taxpayers a
considerable amount of money that could be better spent elsewhere.
LED Lights in the Home
If the average home has 15 light fixtures, and all of them are lit with
high energy consuming incandescent bulbs, that home will be drawing quite a
bit of energy every month in order to illuminate each room. If LED lights
are used, the bill for lighting could be lowered by about 80%, cutting the
total bill to about half of what it normally would be. LED light bulbs
consume so much less energy than incandescent bulbs, and also do not have
the added hazard of toxic mercury that is contained in CFL lamps. LED
lights, for this reason alone, are a much better alternative in terms of
lighting a home.
Less Energy Consumption is Better for the Environment
People may wonder how saving money on their electric bill can contribute to
the over all welfare of the environment, but heres how it will. The
population of the world has reached alarming numbers. There are literally
billions of people. Because of that, there are billions of dwellings, and
each one uses a portion of the earths precious
resources. Many scientists have determined that this excessive usage of
energy could result in catastrophic climatological events if new and
innovative measures are not taken to reduce the amount of energy the
population consumes.
How do LED lights save energy to the extent of having an impact on the
entire world? It may not seem like one family changing their habits would
make much of a difference, but often times changes has a way of becoming
contagious. For example, if everyone changed just a few of the light bulbs
in their homes to LED light bulbs, there would be a major difference in the
overall levels of energy that are consumed every year. It is called the snowball effect and it has
to start somewhere.
